Former Manchester City defender Clive Wilson says that he is expecting the Blues to make up ground on leaders Chelsea as the season progresses.
The Blues are currently placed fifth on the Premier League standings with 43 points, having won 13 out of 22 matches played so far this season.
The 55-year-old says he was impressed the Blues display during their 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspurs and he believes they can use that performance as a ‘springboard’ to for the rest of the season.
‘I hope City can use the performance against Spurs as a springboard for the rest of the season,’ Wilson told the Manchester City website.
‘The Club’s expectations are higher than the current position of fifth and I don’t think anyone expected City to be outside the top four going into February and certainly not 12 points behind Chelsea.
‘With the squad City have got I think the gap should be a lot less and I think it will gradually close over the next few months.
‘But I think we’ll finish strongly and we’ll just have to see where that takes us.’
Manchester City will be hoping to return to winning ways when they take on Crystal Palace in the FA Cup on Saturday.
The match at Selhurst Park kicks off at 17:00.
