The Proteas have been awarded R2.8-million after occupying third position in the International Cricket Council’s rankings for Test teams at last week’s deadline.
First-place India were awarded $1-million and third-placed New Zealand $500,000. South Africa received $200,000.
‘Retaining the ICC Test Championship mace once again is something we are all really proud of. We all know of the importance of Test cricket, and how only the best can prosper in the format,’ said India captain Virat Kohli in a statement from the ICC.
Cricket South Africa, meanwhile, have congratulated the Titans for winning the One-Day Cup. They beat the Dolphins by 135 runs in Sunday’s final at SuperSport Park in Centurion.
‘Congratulations to all the Titans players and support staff who have contributed to this success,’ said CSA chief executive officer Thabang Moroe.
‘There is no doubt that these two teams deserved to contest the final after having topped the log at the end of league play as well.
‘All the franchises are to be congratulated on the intense level of competition that we witnessed throughout the campaign, with all six franchises having a chance of reaching the knock-out phase going into the last round of league play.’
