Bafana Bafana international Percy Tau is looking forward to forging a potent attacking partnership with the in-form Lebo Mothiba.
South Africa do duty against Seychelles at the FNB Stadium in their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at 3pm on Saturday and Tau admitted that he can’t wait to link up with French-based striker Mothiba against Seychelles.
Mothiba has been in a great run of form since his R135m move to Racing Strasbourg from Lille, most recently netting a brace at the weekend in a 2-2 away draw against Angers.
Tau spoke of the advantages of having a burly striker like Mothiba in the mix.
‘I think the coach chooses who to play with‚’ Tau told the media.
‘I think Lebo has been playing well in France. He also did well when we got to play together for Bafana against Zambia.
‘I’m happy that he’s here now and hopefully he will be a good addition to the team.
‘He’s a player who plays according to the structure of the team. So any player who plays around him will benefit.
‘We had a lot of players who were injured in that camp and had to pull out. Mothiba was part of those important players who were not there,’ he added.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker still has the belief that South Africa will secure their spot at next year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
‘It’s still too early because there are still four matches to play. We are second on the log and I don’t see any problem there.
‘We just have to win our games. Even if we draw some of our games‚ we just have to qualify.
‘Sometimes you have to be smart on how you see the group and analyse it. In a group, the end results are also influenced by other results in the same group.
‘So we can’t be putting pressure on ourselves now. We just have to do our best and make sure that we put the country where it is supposed to be,’ he concluded.
Bafana occupy second spot in the Group E standings with four points from beating Nigeria 2-0 away‚ and playing to a stalemate against Libya.
