Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise says his side has what it takes to go all the way and win the Caf Champions League title.

Sundowns booked their place in the group stages of the continental competition after claiming a 2-0 victory with a comfortable 6-0 aggregate win over the two-legged fixture.

As a result, the Brazilians have reached this stage of the competition for the ninth consecutive season.

The 27-year-old stay they will not undermine any of their opponents and respect every club they play against by taking “every game seriously”.

“We played well as a team, we achieved what we had set out to achieve and that is qualifying for the Caf Champions League group stages.

“We take every game seriously regardless of the first leg result. We know what we want to achieve, we have goals and we want to always improve.

“So we do not undermine any game. It is very important that a team as big and ambitious as Mamelodi Sundowns should always qualify for the group stages so that it can challenge to win the Champions League.

“We must take each and every game seriously every time. We have what it takes to win the Champions League.

“We must believe in ourselves, focus and listen to the coach.

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise has urged his side to maintain their current form as they look for a record-extending 15th straight win in the DStv Premiership.

The Brazilians recently secured their 14th straight win in the league when they commended Sekhukhune United to a 2-0 victory at Loftus Versfeld Stadium this past weekend.

The victory saw them open a 21 points gap over second placed Richards Bay with 52 points after 20 matches.

Mkhulise has been ever present in the Sundowns squad and only missed six league matches in Sundowns’ dominant run, but he feels there are still certain areas his side can improve despite their record-extending winning run.

“I am happy about my performance from the last game, however, I still need to improve in certain areas of my game,” Mkhulise told his club’s official website.

“To do that I have to analyse my performances from the past fixture to see where I need to put in more work in order to be ready for the next game.

“We are grateful for the points we have been able to collect. We want to continue collecting points from all the games we still have ahead.

“I am happy that all those who got an opportunity to play performed really well on the pitch.”

South Africa got off to the perfect start and took the lead in the fifth minute when Victor Letsoalo found the back of the net with a header from a Sifiso Ngoben cross to bag his first goal for the national team.

Sphelele Mkhulise then doubled his side’s lead in the 20th minute when the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder tapped the ball home after Nyiko Mobbie’s initial shot was saved by Jersey Matsie.

Bafana should have grabbed their third goal but Monnapule Saleng rattled the woodwork with his free kick from outside the box.

South Africa eventually bagged their third goal two minutes before the break when Letsoalo capitalised on a defensive error by Lesotho, before lobbing the ball into an empty net as the game went into the break 3-0 in favour of the host nation.

They continued their momentum in the second half as Letsaolo managed to complete his hat-trick with a simple finish from close range to make it 4-0.

Bafana opted to ring the changes for the final 25 minutes as Letsoalo, Sithebe and De Reuck were replaced by Mashweu Mphahlele, Ayabulela Konqobe and Thabang Sibanyoni.

South Africa managed to hold on to their lead until the final whistle to progress to the last four with a game left to play in Group A.
