The Brazilians and Orlando Pirates shared the spoils after playing out to a 1-1 draw in the Betway Premiership.

Peter Shalulile opened the scoring for Sundowns in the 20th minute before Pirates youngster Cemran Dansin scored a 35th-minute equaliser at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria.

The draw sees Sundowns move to the top of the league standings with 22 points after 11 matches, while Pirates remain in third place with 19 points from nine matches.

“The matches are going to decide the championship,” Cardoso told SuperSport.

“All the matches we’re going to play until we play the last one.

“I said that the same when this championship was launched, I said this championship will be played until the final and I think this championship will be played until the last stages.”

He added: “I predicted the match will be a very difficult match and, in the end, it was tactically well played. Obviously, Sundowns with more time with the ball and Orlando Pirates with a patient second half just with long balls which is very difficult to deal with of course.

“In the pitch, in some moments we didn’t allow the best football, I think that it’s clear also our options at the moment in the front is not helping too much to put more fire.

“We had to hold the substitutions because we knew we couldn’t play more than 20 minutes so I think it’s a fair result of what we saw in the pitch. Two teams very equal, third draw in the season, well the championship is open, let’s fight for it.”

Cemran started in two successive fixtures for the Buccaneers for the first time in his senior career.

The 20-year-old has scored one goal and assisted a further one in six appearances in all competitions so far this season.

However, Ouaddou came under a lot of criticism for starting the youngster against Sundowns but the faith he put in Cemran paid off after he scored the equalising goal to earn his side a point.

“Look, it’s such difficult for the coach because if you had lost that game all the people will tell you the coach put the player without experience but as a coach I have worked in development for five-six years,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV after the game.

“You have to give chance to this South African youth talent, to give them opportunity to shine, it’s what we did today in a very important game. I think this guy; it is a big experience for him and now we give him chance to grow.

“It’s what I’m going to do, I give chance to the youth especially South African youth with the talent, we need to give them chance.”

The Namibian striker made history when he broke Siyabonga Nomvethe’s scoring record during their 1-0 win over Stellenbosch FC at Athlone Stadium on 30 August.

Shalulile has taken his scoring record to 130 goals, surpassing Nomvethe’s tally of 129 goals.

The 31-year-old will be looking to add to his record and goal tally when they take on Marumo Gallants at the Dr Rantlai Petrus Stadium on Wednesday.

The Namibian forward has now taken his goal tally to 129 goals in the Premier Soccer League.

The 31-year-old will have the opportunity to become the all-time top scorer when Sundowns take on Orlando Pirates in the MTN8 semi-final second-leg at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Saturday.

The Tshwane giants claimed a 1-0 win over the Tunisian side after Peter Shalulile scored the winning goal at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.

Sundowns are scheduled to travel to the Stade Olympique de Radès when they take on Esperance in the second leg in Radès on Tuesday evening.

Cardoso admits the Tunisian outfit gave them a run for their money in the first leg but has urged his side to switch their focus to the return leg as they look to advance to the semi-finals.

“For sure a different match, the closed everything they could. Try to get a result of 0-0 or to score from a counter-attack,” Cardoso told SABC Sport after the game.

“Of course I’m happy that we scored because it’s not easy enter such a defence but we could have been clever, but we got the result. Let’s prepare for the rest.”

The Brazilians secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Esperance thanks to a goal by Peter Shalulile at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday.

The Tshwane giant will now travel to Radès when they face the same opponents at the Stade Olympique de Radès on Tuesday, April 8.

Cardoso was delighted with the victory but will not celebrate too early, as they still have the second leg to look forward to, despite going into the clash with a one-goal lead.

“I think the first half we were not very clever on the way we had to play, because the things that we knew we had to put on the pitch, we didn’t,” Cardoso told SABC Sport after the game.

“So we ran away from the plan that we had defined that’s important to do. When you do it, it’s obvious you’ll not play the game you want to play.

“Anyway, we controlled the first half, then I think in the second one we did in the first 20 minutes what we needed to do and out of that we got something, the goal, and was at moment that I felt we played what we wanted to play.

“Then again we went on not the best emotions and we could have continued with the same style that we wanted to have in order to go for the second goal.

“But anyway, we also need to understand the game what game we were playing and what team we were playing. The tie is in a half (halftime), we have hard work ahead of us, but it’s better go with a 1-0 rather than a 1-1 or a 0-0. So I’m not really excited but conscious about what have ahead and about what we got.”

The Brazilians came out 1-0 winners over Esperance thanks to a goal from Peter Shalulile in the first-leg in Pretoria.

However, Esperance fans began to fight, targeting the Sundowns supporters after the final whistle, damaging property in the process.

As a result, many supporters suffered injuries, with medical doctors attending to those injured.

Police and security officials had to break up the fight and let the Esperance supporters wait on the field while they waited to be escorted out of the venue, as they feared that the Sundowns fans would retaliate against them.

They beat Maniema Union 2-1 away in Kinshasa to move up to eight points in second place in Group B, where they are three ahead of third placed Raja Casablanca, who drew later on Saturday in the Moroccan derby with leaders Royal Armed Forces, who have nine points.

Maniema Union took the lead in the 38th minute in Kinshasa when Jafty Kitambala finished a precise counter-attack to give the home team a deserved advantage but it was a different story after the break as Sundowns dominated possession.

Substitute striker Peter Shalulile equalised with seven minutes remaining before pressure on the home defence saw defender Exosya Mwanda deflect the ball into his own net while attempting to clear a cross.

The defeat eliminated Maniema Union from any chance of advancing.

Sundowns can now aim to finish top of the group when they host the Moroccan military side in Pretoria next Sunday.
