Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Katlego Ntsabeleng says his side can successfully defend their Betway Premiership title if they can maintain their current run of form.

WATCH: Sundowns Storm Back to the Summit of Betway Prem

Mamelodi Sundowns secured a comfortable 4-1 victory over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday evening.

A result that sees the Brazilians return to the summit of the Betway Premiership with 53 points from 23 matches.

READ: Cardoso: It Was Not An Easy Match

Ntsabeleng has expressed his gratitude towards his teammates and club after claiming the Man of the Match award.

“It means a lot to get this award. First of all, I would like to thank the Almighty for just giving me the opportunity to express the talent he’s given me,” Ntsabeleng said on SuperSport TV.

“We all know playing for Mamelodi Sundowns, it comes with pressure, and when you get a chance you have to take it, and I think I’m doing my best at that.

“I think I started a bit slow, but as I got used to the team everything went well.

“I think it’s the things we work on in training, just shooting outside the box, creating space for each other, complimentary runs as you can see it’s all coming together now.

“It means a lot for the fans to come out in numbers. We need them, it’s a title race and it’s a difficult one this year because all the teams are going head to head.

“But, I believe we gonna come out on top if we keep playing the way we are.”

The Brazilians claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory over Chippa United at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday evening.

The win takes Sundowns back up to the top of the Betway Premiership standings with 53 points after playing 23 matches.

READ: Ntsabeleng Backs Sundowns to Retain Betway Prem Title With Strong Form

Cardoso praised his players for responding to his halftime message and showing the necessary commitment to regain control, secure the result, and maintain focus ahead of their next fixture.

“It was not an easy match, as I said before the match there’s no PSL matches that are easy,” Cardoso told SuperSport after the game.

“The question is the boys understood the message, that goal before halftime of course brought a little bit of insecurity.

“But the message was well passed at halftime, how we needed to be committed and try to take the game in our hands, score the fourth goal that would finish the game and happy for them.

“The boys at the end of the day gave a lot; the starters also made a mission so look forward and there’s another one already on Tuesday.”

Mamelodi Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners believes the team has returned from their short break refreshed and refocused on their upcoming match against Chippa United.

The Brazilians will resume their participation in the Betway Premiership when they welcome Chippa United to Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Friday.

Rayners comes into this fixture in a rich vein of form, having scored four goals and grabbed one assist in his last four matches.

The Sundowns forward highlighted a productive reunion in camp and clear direction from the coaching staff as they sharpen their preparations for their next fixture.

“For me, I think it was a good four days off because we spent time with our families, and when we arrived back, it was a good opportunity for us to be back together and focus on our next game,” Rayners told Sundowns Media Team.

“I think our preparations went well, especially when you’ve been off for four days.

“When we came back on the first day, the coach already knew what was on his head.

“He told us the day we left for the break that we would have to play a game on Friday so the guys know what to do.”

The Betway Premiership Monthly Awards winners for March have been confirmed, with Miguel Cardoso, Relebohile Mofokeng and Ayabulela Konqobe recognised for their performances during the month.

The winners were selected by an independent panel of PSL-accredited journalists and broadcasters.

Cardoso secures back-to-back Coach of the Month awards after guiding Mamelodi Sundowns to four wins from four matches, all crucial results that have strengthened their bid in the title race.

He edged out strong competition from Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou and AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane, who has guided AmaZulu into the top three after winning two of their three fixtures in March.

Pirates forward Mofokeng retains the Betway Premiership Player of the Month award following an impressive run of form.

Building on his momentum from the previous month, the attacker has continued to play a key role in Pirates’ attacking play.

Across four matches, Mofokeng recorded four goals, including the first hat-trick of his professional career against TS Galaxy.

Chippa United’s Konqobe claims his first Betway Premiership Monthly Award, winning Goal of the Month for his outstanding strike against Magesi FC at Seshego Stadium in Polokwane on 14 March.
From well outside the box, Konqobe produced a powerful and precise finish, a goal already being recognised as one of the standout strikes of the season.

As the proud title sponsor of the Premiership, Betway continues to enhance the fan experience through initiatives such as S’bonise & Win, where supporters attending matches in their club colours can win up to R20,000.

The Dial Up games further offer active Betway account holders the opportunity to win up to R50,000 at selected fixtures.

Chippa United’s Stanley Nwabali was the hero for Nigeria as they kept up their run of third placed finishes at the Africa Cup of Nations, edging Egypt 4-2 on post-match penalties after a goalless draw in Saturday’s bronze medal match.

Here are talking points for the game.

Nwabali shootout prowess
The big frame of Nwabali stopped efforts from Egypt’s Premier League stars Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush to set up success in the shootout. They were two excellent stops, first with a strong hand, and the second with his feet. Egypt did put their next two past him but it was the Chippa ‘keeper elected man of the match for his heroics. It would have gone some way to making up for the disappointment of Nigeria’s penalty shootout defeat to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the World Cup playoff in November and again in Wednesday’ semi-final loss to hosts Morocco.

Merits of the match
The World Cup and the Cup of Nations continue with the third-place game but the European Championship long dispensed with it. Many ask what is the point? While there was a decent crowd at Stade Mohamed V to watch two of the continent’s heavyweights, there was little edge to the contest and a raft of changes from coaches who had claim beforehand they desperately wanted to win. Is there really any point besides giving television one more match to go show?

Osimhen and the golden boot
Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen was only one goal behind Brahim Diaz of Morocco in the race for the top scorer at the Cup of Nations finals and would have had a good opportunity on Saturday to catch him up and potentially over take him. But Nigeria’s star striker did not suit up, staying on the bench throughout the 90 minutes. He had looked to pick up a knock near the end of the semi-final against Morocco and with plenty of club football ahead with Galatasaray erred on the side of caution.

Goalless draw
The scoreless tie was only the third time in 33 third place play off matches that the bronze medal game ended goalless. The first was not that long ago in 2015 when hosts Equatorial Guinea were pipped by the Democratic Republic of Congo on post match penalties and then again at the last edition where South Africa edged the Leopards following a goalless stalemate in Abidjan.

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef has opened up on his side’s scoring woes following their draw against Chippa United.

Amakhosi were forced to share the spoils with the Chilli Boys after they played out to a goalless draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.

The Soweto giants missed the chance to reclaim third place in the Betway Premiership standings following the draw with Chippa.

Ben Youssef’s side will now look to bounce back and return to winning ways when they face TS Galaxy at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

“First, I want to say congratulate to Chippa for a game, they make it very good, with a good structure and was fighting every challenge. For us, I think we not have an excuse we had a lot of opportunities,” Youssef told SuperSport TV after the game.

“When you get a six-metre opportunity one-v-one you don’t score, that’s football. We have to continue to work, we have to correct the same problem.

“Now we are a big time in the last third and you don’t score that’s the big problem we have to continue to work.”

He continued, “That’s coming from the players, individual qualities, one-on-one situations. For us, as a coach you have to continue with the individual work, we have to continue working that’s our job to fix our mistake and finally it’s the job of the players to find the right solutions.

“To find the right decision in the last third for us we continue to work and want to improve our performance from the last game.”

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons says he is determined to improve his game to help contribute to the team’s success this season.

Solomons was the hero for Amakhosi this past weekend after he scored the equalising goal to earn his side a 1-1 draw against Zamalek SC in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Amakhosi will now turn their attention back to the Betway Premiership when they face Chippa United at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Wednesday.

The 28-year-old will be hoping to continue his form for Amakhosi in the hope of helping his side walk away with all three points.

“The CAF games have been a learning experience as we have a number of players getting their first taste of continental football,” Solomons told his club’s official website.

“It has been tough but we’ll take the results and move on with the determination to improve when the competition resumes next year.

“Personally, it has been a good few months for me. The heard work I did when I was injured is paying off now. Being out injured was not a good tie for me.

“But I am so happy to be involved now and to help contribute to the team. Scoring a goal was wonderful but I like getting assists, which I take pride in more.

“I really want to contribute even more, hopefully in the next two games before the break for the AFCON tournament.

Kaizer Chiefs defender Dillan Solomons is confident Amakhosi can secure maximum points against Chippa United.

The Glamour Boys will travel to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium when they take on the Chilli Boys on Wednesday evening.

Amakhosi will come into this fixture sitting in fourth place in the Betway Premiership standings with 22 points after 11 matches.

Solomons says they did not have much time to prepare for this encounter following their exploits in the CAF Confederation Cup, but he is confident ahead of the match.

“I’m looking forward to the Chippa game,” Solomons told his club’s official website.

“Obviously, coming off a fair result in the CAF Confederation Cup, we want to refocus on the league.

“We know what type of team Chippa is and it won’t be an easy game away from home but our intention is to pick up maximum points by making sure we execute what we have to do.

“Because of the short turnaround between games, we haven’t had much time to focus on Chippa so sticking to our own processes will be crucial to getting a positive result.”
