The Glamour Boys settled for a point against the Buccaneers after they played to a 1-1 draw in Johannesburg.

Kamogelo Sebelebele scored a 74th-minute goal to cancel out Pule Mmodi’s 61st-minute opener at the FNB Stadium.

The draw sees Amakhosi remain in third place in the Betway Premiership standings with 47 points after 25 matches.

Chiefs will look to bounce back and return to winning ways when they face Siwelele FC at the Free State Stadium on Wednesday.

“I think it was a great game, tactical game, it was more important, it was a more challenging game, I think that we create some opportunities but was unlucky to score,” Youssef told SuperSport after the game.

“The possibility was there, I’m so happy about the performance of the players.

“I’m so happy even about the players not in the team, they will come back more, they showed great character unfortunately we didn’t win the game but we continue to fight and continue to be.”

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has expressed his thoughts on their draw against Kaizer Chiefs in the final Soweto derby of the season.

The Buccaneers were forced to settle for a point after playing out to a 1-1 draw when Kamogelo Sebelebele cancelled out Pule Mmodi’s opening goal at the FNB Stadium.

The draw sees Pirates remain at the top of the Betway Premiership standings with 59 points, one point ahead of second place Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ouaddou admitted his side were second best in the physical battles early on, acknowledging that a slow start and a lack of attacking sharpness in the first half prevented them from asserting their usual dominance.

“Look, we expected a tough game, when you see the line-up especially in the middle, we knew that they will not come trying to play maybe to be well organised compact, but very physical duels it’s what we had,” Ouaddou told SuperSport TV after the game.

“I think in the first half, I thought we were really nice with the duels we didn’t win too much duels, we didn’t win too much duels, we didn’t start the game like we wanted, we didn’t create a lot of chances like the other games we have played.”

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has praised the remarkable maturity of Relebohile Mofokeng, suggesting he could become captain of the Buccaneers.

The 21-year-old has been sensational since being promoted to the senior team on August 4, 2023.

Mofokeng has racked up 29 goals and registered 30 assists in 120 appearances across all competitions for the Buccaneers.

He could be in line to add to his tally when Pirates take on Kaizer Chiefs in the much-anticipated Soweto derby on Sunday.

Ncikazi suggested Mofokeng already possesses leadership qualities beyond his years and could be given the responsibility of the captain armband.

“The boy [Relebohile Mofokeng] is so mature for a youngster, you wouldn’t think somebody his age,” Ncikazi told the media.

“If it wasn’t for any other thing, you can even give him the responsibility of a captain, although this one [Nkosinathi Sibisi] is doing so well. So, he’s in that mode.”

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef says his side are mentally and physically ready to take on Orlando Pirates in the Soweto derby.

The Glamour Boys head into this clash unbeaten in their last five Betway Premiership matches, recording four wins and one draw along the way.

Orlando Pirates claimed early Soweto derby bragging rights with a commanding 3-0 victory over their rivals at the FNB Stadium on 28 February.

Ben Youssef believes improved squad stability has brought renewed energy and balance to the team, with injuries previously disrupting consistency

“We were unlucky that we had a lot of injuries. The difficult thing for a job is that when you have injuries, you have to make substitutions and you don’t have consistency,” said Ben Youssef.

“Now in the last five or six games, it’s been relatively the same squad. When the consistency is there, the performance and the results are there. Unfortunately, we missed a lot of chances and points. The performance was good, but we didn’t score. But we found balance in the last two games.

“We’ve got the energy, and the vibe. All the players are ready and fit; they are sending a strong message that they are ready – mentally, fitness and training wise in the last three weeks. We are ready to win this game, Inshallah.”

Orlando Pirates coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has opened up on the pressure and the importance of the Soweto derby.

The Buccaneers come into this fixture on an eight-match unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership.

In the last derby between the two sides, Pirates came out on top after securing a 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs at the FNB Stadium on February 28.

Pirates and Chiefs will meet again on Sunday for the second instalment of the Soweto derby when they face off at the Orlando Amstel Arena.

“It will be important because you’re not just playing the derby,” Ouaddou said during the official derby presser.

“The players have the history and legacy in mind, and it is one of the best games in Africa, not only in South Africa. This game is watched by people all over Africa and Europe.

“As I come from France, I can tell you that many people are asking about the game, and similarly, in England, where I played, many people are eager to watch it.

“I’ve even received calls from the USA. So, a lot of people are doing a good job preparing for the derby, and for us, it will be very important to prepare as well.

The Glamour Boys come into this match on a five-match unbeaten run in the Betway Premiership, having won four and drew one.

Orlando Pirates clinched their bragging rights in the first derby after clinching a 3-0 victory at the FNB Stadium on February 28.

Ben Youssef praised his side’s strong recent form while acknowledging the quality of Orlando Pirates, with the clash likely to be decided by which team makes fewer mistakes on the day.

“Now, there’s a big difference between the first and second derby,” Ben Youssef said.

“Every team has been performing well in the last six or seven games. We are coming from six games – five wins and one draw.

“I think it’s not for me to speak about the performance of Pirates, from the start of the season. They had a very good performance with coach Abdeslam.

“I think on the day of the derby, the team that makes fewer mistakes will be ready to challenge.”

Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou insists his team have to build on their momentum and maintain it until the end of the season.

The Buccaneers claimed the bragging rights after claiming a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs thanks to goals from Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa at the FNB Stadium.

The win saw Pirates climb back to the top of the Betway Premiership standings with 41 points from 18 matches, three points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ouaddou praised his side’s fighting spirit and clinical finishing after a high-quality performance, highlighting the early goal, sustained pressure, and ambitious approach as a benchmark result the team must build on for the remainder of the season.

“The fighting spirit of our team has been there for a while since the beginning of the season. And the aim to play some quality football as well is still there,” Ouaddou told SuperSport.

“What changed today is the efficiency in the area of truth. It means that in the finishing, we were spot on. I have to give credit to our boys.

“I’m a really happy. I’m proud of my boys today. That is that kind of performance that I’m expecting from them, high level and playing with high ambition,” the Pirates coach said

“We wanted to score early. And they did it. We played against very good team, but the fact that we scored earlier, we put them under pressure in the first half and it helped us to develop our game.

“I can say that for me, it’s really a reference game. We have to build on that until the end of the season.”

READ: Highlights: Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates

The Buccaneers claimed the bragging rights after claiming a comfortable 3-0 victory over Kaizer Chiefs thanks to goals from Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa at the FNB Stadium.

READ: It’s A Very Difficult Pill To Swallow – Kaze

The win saw Pirates moved back to the top of the Betway Premiership standings with 41 points from 18 matches, three points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns.

Ouaddou has expressed pride in the team’s high-intensity start, tactical discipline and strong response following a difficult period in the build-up to the clash.

“I think my boys, I’m very proud of my boys today, we started the game like exactly we wanted, we wanted to put the high pressure, to score early. What helped us to bring this game easier,” Ouaddou told SuperSport after the game.

“It was a difficult two-three weeks after the two losses, and I think they gave us a fantastic answer in this derby and I’m very proud of them and we have to keep going like that.

“It was the target, we prepared this derby very well, the guys wanted to show a great image, great qualities of Orlando Pirates in front of our fans, we wanted to make them happy. We wanted to keep the high levels of football we have shown.

“In the second half, we just made some slight changes, tactical changes because we had this problem in the half-spaces of the opponents and we have the left-winger that tried to overload on the side and the boys they really answered well.

“And what a great character, what a great personality of the boys, and I’m a happy coach tonight.”

The Glamour Boys fell to a 3-0 defeat against the Buccaneers after conceding goals from Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa at the FNB Stadium.

The defeat leaves Amakhosi remaining in fourth place in the Betway Premiership standings with 30 points, while Pirates moved back to the top of the table with 41 points from 18 matches.

READ: Ouaddou Hails Pirates’ Intensity and Mentality in Derby Win

Kaze has urged his players to regroup, learn from the setback and focus on improving in the remaining matches of the season.

“I believe the opponent deserved the win, we were nowhere near them and you know the first five minutes we conceded a goal on a short-corner that maybe took a toll on how we wanted to start the game,” Kaze told SuperSport TV after the game.

“I feel like in the second half we came out with better intentions, better ideas but the opponents used the tricks in the first 15 minutes every time falling down and that took our energy down too and after that the third goal.

“We were well out and one man down and don’t manage well the moments but I think it’s a big disappointment and still have 13 games to go and keep our heads up.

“It’s a very difficult pill to swallow, but we need to swallow it and go back onto the training field and work more.”
