Kaizer Chiefs head coach Khalil Ben Youssef was pleased with his side after they secured their qualification to the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Glamour Boys returned to winning ways after securing a 2-0 victory over Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Sunday.

Goals from Tashreeq Morris and Mfundo Vilakazi saw Amakhosi walk away with the win and all three points at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

As a result, Chiefs secured their qualification to next year’s CAF Confederation Cup with two games remaining in the season.

“I think we discussed many times the minimum this season is to qualify for the CAF, now one of the targets we did. We said the first thing is to play compete and play again the CAF every season and that’s the minimum for the fans, the team for one of the biggest team in South Africa and in Africa,” Ben Youssef said.

“Now, we have to think still two games – we have to stay focus, to compete to get the maximum points. I think about the game – the player showed very good character today. Very tough mentality after the strong game that we played in three days against Sundowns to repeat.

“I’m so proud of the performance of the players, the commitment, desire they showed in this game. Congratulations to them and congratulations for the fans and congratulations for all the family of Kaizer Chiefs,” he concluded.

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe understands the significance of the fixture and the tough test that awaits against Zamalek SC.

Amakhosi face a stern test against Egyptian heavyweights Zamalek SC at the Al Salam Stadium on Saturday.

With 10 points from five matches, the Glamour Boys occupy first place in Group D heading into this encounter.

A single point will be enough to send the Soweto side through, as Zamalek sit on eight points, Al Masry on seven and ZESCO United on three.

“We know it’s going to be very difficult. It’s not going to come easy,” Maboe told his club’s official website.

“But as players, we’ve spoken among ourselves and we understand what needs to be done to make sure the team goes to the next round. That’s our main focus right now and making sure we get through.

“The most important thing is that we are creating chances.

“Credit must go to our frontline players for getting into those positions. It shows we’re doing something right.

“Of course, it would be better with a higher conversion rate, but the players are working hard to make sure we start finishing the chances we create.”

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe is optimistic about their chances of progressing to the next phase of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Amakhosi are scheduled to face Egyptian giants Zamalek SC on Saturday when the two sides meet at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

The Glamour Boys come into this fixture sitting at the top of the Group D standings on 10 points after five matches played.

The Soweto giants will only need a draw to book their place in the next round of the competition, with Zamalek on eight points, Al Masry on seven and ZESCO United on three points.

“These are the type of games I came here to play. When you sign for a big team, you want to be in hostile environments, where the odds are stacked against you,” Maboe told his club’s official website.

“Once you step onto the pitch, the crowd doesn’t matter and what matters is focusing on your job and putting the team through.

“We’ll need one another, we’ll need to pull in the same direction, but we’ve got strong leaders and a strong team. If we work together, I don’t see us not qualifying.”

The Glamour Boys secured back-to-back victories over ZESCO United after claiming a 1-0 win thanks to a firs-half goal by Glody Lilepo at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban.

The win sees Amakhosi move up to second place in the Group D standings, level on seven points with leaders Al Masry SC.

Chiefs will be hoping to continue their momentum when they face Stellenbosch FC in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 at the DHL Cape Town Stadium on Wednesday.

“It’s not me, it’s the players. I think I have to say congratulations to the players we are always outside our house and in camp playing every two days a game,” Youssef told SABC Sport post-match.

“They promised before the game that they will give their all in their legs to win this game. I have to say congratulations to them, to the technical staff, more deserving fitness coach, doctor for the big work they are doing.

“I think it’s not easy to make to manage like that, you see how we finish the game, we were so tired but you know when God is here and you play to win this game, nothing can stop you.

“Congratulations to them, we are happy for the fans, team and I hope we continue the same.”

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef was quick to applaud his players, praising their performance, resilience and fighting spirit after a hard-fought contest.

Amakhosi secured their first win in the CAF Confederation Cup Group D following their 1-0 win over Zesco United.

The Glamour Boys secured the win and all three points thanks to a first-minute goal by
Pule Mmodi at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The win sees Amakhosi sit in third place in Group D with four points, having won one games, drawn one and conceded one defeat in three matches.

Chiefs will look to secure back-to-back wins in the group when they take on Zesco United at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Sunday.

“It was a physical game. For us the target, we came for three points, we didn’t come to play great football or to enjoy, we came for three points,” Ben Youssef said after the match, via SABC 1 as per iDiski Times.

“I think we deserve to win this game, we deserve the three points. The pitch made it difficult for us.

“Maybe it’s easier for ZESCO United, who play long balls, for us we play a technical game, we play short passes, we make the progression with short passes.

“Unfortunately, today with this pitch it was difficult to play our football, so we were playing another football. We are not a physical team, we are a technical team.

“That made it more difficult for us, it was only long balls… I have to say congratulations for the players. We said we come for three points, we don’t come to play, we come to win.

“That’s why I have to say congratulations to the players how they played, how they fight. They deserve it.”
