Luka Modric has been crowned Uefa Player of the Year for 2017-18 after playing a major role in Real Madrid’s third successive Champions League success.
In addition to picking up the Player of the Year award, which he edged Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah to, Modric led a Real Madrid clean sweep in the rest of the awards as he picked up the midfielder of the year.
Los Blancos shot-stopper Keylor Navas was awarded the Goalkeeper of the Year accolade while club captain Sergio Ramos picked up the Defender of the Year award.
Ronaldo, now of Juventus, was awarded the Forward of the Year award after winning the competition Golden Boot for the third successive year.
The awards come as no real surprise as the side from the Spanish capital clinched an unprecedented third successive Champions League title with victory over Liverpool.
There perhaps were some suggestions that Salah could have been in line for an award after enjoying a stellar debut season at Anfield. However, few could argue with the recipients considering the role they played in creating history with Real.
