Cape Town City captain Thamsanqa Mkhize is confident his side are ready for their upcoming clash against Kaizer Chiefs in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday, writes DYLAN APPOLIS.
The Citizens will renew their rivalry with the Amakhosi when the two sides lock horns at the Mbombela Stadium for a place in the semi-final of the competition.
City made their way into this stage of the competition after making light work of Highlands Park, who they beat 3-0 in the previous round, while Chiefs progressed after claiming a 3-0 win in extra time against The Magic FC.
Mkhize was in fine form recently for Bafana Bafana after helping the South African national team qualify for the 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) tournament in Egypt, set for later this year.
‘We have to be ready,’ Mkhize told the media.
‘Ever since I’ve been with Cape Town City, and whenever we play cup competitions we always play against big teams.
‘We have to be ready,’ he added. ‘We want to compete for every competition and this is another opportunity for us to be in the final.
‘We are playing against the best team, and we all know (Kaizer) Chiefs is a big team in South Africa, so we have to give them that respect.
‘But when we are on that pitch, the most important thing is winning, and winning the game so that we can reach the [Nedbank Cup] semi-finals.’
Cape Town City will take on Kaizer Chiefs when the two sides square off at the Mbombela Stadium on Sunday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
