Cape Town City have been handed a major boost after midfielder Mpho Makola’s six-month PSL ban was overturned.
Makola was initially handed a six-month ban from football after assaulting a match referee during their Telkom Knockout Cup defeat to Kaizer Chiefs in October.
However, his six-month ban has since been reduced on appeal to four matches by the South African Football Association (Safa) Appeals Board.
The 33-year-old midfielder is now eligible to feature for the Citizens, having already served his four-match ban.
Cape Town City have released the following statement on the matter, which reads:
The club is pleased to confirm that Mpho Makola’s six-month ban has been overturned by the SAFA appeals board on numerous counts.
A correct four-match sanction has been placed retrospectively. Makola will be available and eligible for the first game of 2020.
