Dustin Johnson stole the show with his unchallenged victory at the BMW Championship, while Charl Schwartzel put on a masterclass with a Sunday round of 64 at Crooked Stick to share fourth place.
Johnson, who is world number two and threatening the top spot, combined his length off the tee, wedge game and a hot new putter to shoot rounds of 67, 63, 68, and 67 for 23 under par.
He was three shots clear of runner-up Paul Casey and moved to first in the FedEx Cup ahead of the Tour Championship at East Lake, where the top 30 points earners bid for a $10-million bonus cheque.
‘I feel like I played really well this year, I control my own destiny going into it,’ said Johnson. ‘If I win the (Tour Championship), I’ll win it all. That’s the goal going into it and that’s the only thing I’m going to be focused on and just go out there and play really good golf and see what happens,’
Schwartzel secured a spot at the season finale with his Sunday heroics.
‘It was just a really good round. The whole week I played so well and didn’t make any putts. I changed my putter this morning and I went back and I made some putts and that’s the difference,’ he said.
