Can Nigerian shotstopper Daniel Akpeyi permanently dethrone Itumeleng Khune to become Kaizer Chiefs’ No 1 goalkeeper?
Akpeyi put in an impressive performance in his first real test between the sticks for Amakhosi as he kept a clean sheet during their 2-0 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Sunday.
After struggling to find his feet at Chiefs, Akpeyi has finally adapted and improved his performance over the past few weeks to earn the No 1 spot in the team.
The Nigerian shotstopper has stepped up and proved his worth in the absence of Khune, who has been struggling with injury, to keep four clean sheets in eight appearances across all competitions.
Apkeyi will again be between the sticks for Amakhosi when they take on Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates in the Telkom Knockout Cup quarter-finals at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday, with kick-off set for 3pm.
