Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt believes he is ‘too young’ to coach the South African senior national team.
The 55-year-old coach guided the Clever Boys to a third-place finish in the Absa Premiership during the 2018-19 season and booked their spot in the 2019-20 MTN8 tournament.
Hunt felt that Bafana Bafana did well at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt and praised coach Stuart Baxter for guiding the national team to the quarter-finals for the first time since 2013.
‘I fully respect Stuart Baxter and his whole team, they got to the quarter-final after not qualifying for such a long time; they’ve done well and have something to build on. I will support them whichever way they go,’ Hunt told the media.
When asked about the possibility of coaching Bafana Bafana, Hunt insisted that he does not have enough experience despite being ranked among the top coaches in South Africa.
‘I really don’t want to talk about that, that’s not really my area; there’s someone in place there. I’m too young to be a national team coach,’ he added laughingly.
Bidvest Wits will begin their 2019-20 Absa Premiership campaign with an away game against AmaZulu at the King Zwelithini Stadium on 3 August, with kick-off set for 8:15pm.
