SuperSport United handed a 10-man Orlando Pirates a 2-0 defeat on Monday evening, with the Buccaneers ending their campaign in a disappointing sixth-place finish.
Pirates needed to win by five clear goals to secure a spot in next season’s Caf Confederation Cup, but went behind early as Fortune Makaringe nodded into his own net from a corner.
Things got worse for Pirates in the second half as Thamsanqa Gabuza was brought down by Jele, who was shown a straight red card.
Ghampani Lunugu stepped up but had his spot kick saved by Richard Ofori. However, a retake was needed after the goalkeeper came off his line and the SuperSport forward managed to convert on the second attempt.
Pirates looked to get back into the game but SuperSport were defending well and gave nothing away.
