Chippa United have announced the appointment of former Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt as the club’s new head coach for the upcoming 2021-22 DStv Premiership season.
The 56-year-old has been jobless since his sacking at Amakhosi in May, following a string of poor results in the DStv Premiership during his eight-month stint with the club in the 2020-21 season.
Hunt will now take over the helm from Lehlohonolo Seema, who parted ways with the club to join fellow PSL side Golden Arrows.
The former Bidvest Wits coach will begin preparing the Eastern Cape club with immediate effect after agreeing to a two-year contract with the Chilli Boys.
“I see this as a massive challenge, and one that really excites me,” said Hunt. “The Eastern Cape as a region is where so many fantastic South African sportsmen and women hail from and this area certainly deserves a successful Football Club that the locals can be proud of.
“The facilities here are outstanding and the passion of the people, both in the province and at the club is amazing. I can’t wait to start working again.”
Hunt will be joined at Chippa by Roy Limongelli who was with him at Bidvest Wits FC. Limongelli will fulfil an administrative role supporting the Coach. His assistants will be announced in due course.
“Chippa United Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Gavin Hunt as the Club’s new Head Coach. Welcome to Eastern Cape, The Home Of The Chilli Boys,” the club statement read.
