SASoccermag editor Wade Pretorius challenges New Zealand and SuperSport United striker Jeremy Brockie to put his Premier League knowledge to the test.
UPDATE: Brockie managed to accumulate nine points in round one after earning bonus points for six correct picks but it was not enough to beat our editor and part-time Superbru guru, Wade Pretorius, who mustered 10 points and two exact scores in week 2. The Kiwi striker came unstuck after failing to back Manchester City and Chelsea to win while also paying the price for too much faith in Arsenal.
The New Zealander has set the goal-scoring standard in the PSL since joining SuperSport United in January last year with his positional intelligence and clinical finishing turning him into one of the league’s finest finishers.
Brockie is ready to take his game up to the next level this season and has set a target finding the net 15 times in the league this season but how will his football knowledge measure up?
‘I’ve been a Manchester United fan since I can remember,’ Brockie tells SASoccermag.
‘Growing up in New Zealand Man United was the only team talked about and my idol was David Beckham. My first shirt was a Beckham one.
‘It’s been a sad couple of years for Man United fans but I believe the new signings along with Mourinho in charge trophies might return to Old Trafford.’
On to the match of the week – Leicester at home against Arsenal – and Brockie is tipping the defending champions to make it two defeats from two while our pro believes there will be little separating the sides at the King Power Stadium.
‘I can’t see Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez being as dominant as they were last season.
‘They will still have a good season but I think they won’t keep pace on the so-called ‘bigger teams’ this year.
‘Arsenal until they bring in a centre back or two will always concede goals but going forward there are plenty of goal scored like we saw last week. So I fancy Arsenal in this one.’
Premier League Week 2:
Manchester United 3-1 Southampton(Wade’s pick: 2-0)
Stoke City 1-1 Manchester City (Wade’s pick: 1-2)
