With Juventus star Paul Pogba close to a mega transfer to Manchester United, former Red Devils man Phil Neville has defended the €110-million fee.
Pogba infamously departed Old Trafford to join the Turin side on a free back in 2012 after failing to agree terms with the side, but could be poised to break Gareth Bale’s transfer record should he make a spectacular return.
Neville, meanwhile, is adamant the player would be worth the massive outlay as he believes the France star is exactly what the club requires to bolster their midfield.
‘I think you are getting one of the best midfield players in the world,’ Neville told Sky Sports.
‘I think you are getting someone who is not going to dominate a game on the ball like a Xabi Alonso or a Paul Scholes but is going to go from box to box.’
Neville believes Pogba’s strong physical presence will benefit him in the Premier League and has also praised the player’s turn of speed.
‘His physicality is always something that has stood out. Even when he was younger at the academy at Man United, he was always bigger than everybody else, he was always quicker than everybody else, he was always more powerful.
‘He will give the Man United midfield that power and that stature that I think they have missed for the last two or three seasons,’ concluded the former defender.
Pogba made 41 appearances for Juventus last term, scoring 10 times and assisting a further 12.
