A stunning Luka Modric display guided Croatia to a win over Turkey in the opening Group D fixture.
The midfielder, who capped a great game with a spectacular goal, continued his fine form following on from his Champions League success with Real Madrid.
With Turkey kicking the ball clear following a cross, Modric was on hand to meet the ball on the volley, cracking his effort into the bottom corner. But the goal was just one aspect of the player’s performance, as Modric proved significant in keeping his country ticking in midfield.
Modric completed an impressive 52 of his 59 passes in the contest, and also created two goal scoring chanced for his teammates, according to SASoccermag’s Opta-powered match centre.
Modric also contributed defensively as he made three tackles as well as four interceptions, while he emerged the victor in five out of nine of his personal duels.
Modric will be on hand for his side once again for Croatia’s next match against the Czech Republic.
