West Ham United take on Bournemouth on soccer Sunday while the earlier fixture sees David Moyes’ Sunderland face Middlesbrough.
The Hammers’ season did not get off to the best of starts last weekend as they were beaten by a late goal against Chelsea. The side will welcome star wing Dimitri Payet back into the side following the Frenchman’s late return from Euro 2016.
Bournemouth too will be looking for better after their opening day defeat at the hands of Manchester United but will have to produce a better display if they are likely to pick up any valuable points.
West Ham have a superior record in head-to-head clashes between the sides with the Hammers having recorded four wins while the Cherries have won just once.
The Hammers do have a string of injuries to contend with as Payet remains short of full fitness, while Cheikhou Kouyate (hamstring) and Havard Nordtveit remain doubts. The likes of Andre Ayew (thigh), Aaron Cresswell (knee), Sofiane Feghouli (hamstring) and Manuel Lanzini (knee) are all out.
Bournemouth, for their part, will be without the likes of Junior Stanislas with a hernia, while Tyrone Mings (knee) and Baily Cargill (groin) will play no part.
Newly promoted Middlesborough got their season off to a decent start last weekend as they battled to a 1-1 draw with a competitive Stoke City side. The club made numerous signings in a bid to try ensure their Premier League stay won’t be a short one, while Sunderland have recently announced a deal for former Bafana Bafana captain Steven Pienaar on a one-year contract.
Sunderland boast the better record over Middlesborough historically as the side have won 64 of the twos clashes compared to the Boro’s 44 wins. Daniel Ayala (ankle) is a doubt for Boro while Marten De Roon (hamstring), Grant Leadbitter (groin), and Bernado Espinosa (knee) have all been ruled out. Meanwhile, the Black Cats are missing the likes of Sebasitan Larsson (knee), Jan Kirchoff (hamstring), Lee Cattermole (groin), while Billy Jones is a doubt following a hip complaint.
