Borussia Dortmund starlet Mikel Merino believes the side’s star striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang would be the ideal signing for Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Aubameyang’s stunning from in recent seasons has seen him elevated to the status of an elite striker and the player has made no secret of his desire to link-up with European champions Real in the future.
With Dortmund set to meet Los Blancos in the Champions League Tuesday, Merino has talked up the prospect of Aubameyang flourishing at the Spanish club.
‘Aubameyang is a bullet! I knew it [before I was converted into a defender], but when you have to defend against him as centre back, you can feel it much more,’ Merino told Goal.
‘Not just because of his speed, but also for his good movements and his finishing. He’s a top player. Would he fit at Real Madrid? The strikers there need to score and make a difference. He does it. He would fit, of course.’
Dortmund have been in imperious scoring form so far this season and started their Champions League campaign with a 6-0 thrashing of Legia Warsaw. In all, the side have managed 14 goals in three consecutive Bundesliga wins.
It is a run of form that Merino is confident will carry over into their tie with Real, while the defender insists he side will have to be at their best to overcome the defending champions.
‘Borussia Dortmund are in a good moment, yes, maybe the best in recent times,’ he added. ‘We have scored a lot of goals in the last few games,’ he concluded.
The fixture will take place at Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park.
The action gets underway from 20:45.
